Last weekend, I had the pleasure of co-hosting a Wedding Shower with my sister, for our soon-to-be sister in-law.  I found a ton of great ideas on Pinterest - several made their way into the festivities.  One of the things I stumbled upon was this wreath:

source: Becca Wong of EternalWreaths

for $70

Seventy dollars for door decor was not within our budget.  Even if it was, spending that much on a wreath just doesn't sit well with me.  I found Diane's tutorial on creating a monogram wreath from foam board and went for it.  Her tutorial gave the option of using Photoshop or Microsoft Publisher - neither of which I had, so I used Microsoft Word instead, and created a walk-through for you all.

What you'll need:

Monogram Printout {design tutorial here}
Foam Board
Transfer Paper
Hot Knife {I use this one}
Hot Glue
Wreath
Spray Paint - glossy black
Flowers of Choice

I found this wreath at Goodwill for $3, took it home, and plucked off all of the not-so-cute flowers.  Next, I covered it with $1 glossy, black spray paint.

While it dried, I took my Monogram printout and laid a piece of transfer paper over top.  I traced the monogram onto the paper, and then taped the transfer paper to the white foam board.  Using the hot knife, I carefully cut out the monogram.

Fishing line was used to carefully hang the monogram from the wreath.  We purchased two $6 sprigs of Delphinium from Joann Fabrics, pulled off the buds and hot glued them onto the wreath.

Not bad for less than twenty bucks, huh?

    1. Becky, it's surprisingly easy and is WAY better than spending all that money on a wood monogram.

  4. Wow! That looks great! We decorated for my wedding with wreaths. My mom found a bunch of different ones and we bought a bunch of artificial flowers and had a decorating party. Then after the wedding the guests took them home. Now when I visit my mom, I see this wreath and it brings back great memories!!

  8. Your wreath looks great! Love how you made the monogram too. I found a wreath on sale at the craft store and I had a coupon too, so I picked up a so-so cheap wreath and took it home to spruce it up. Isn't it awesome when we can find cheap stuff and make it look amazing?!

  15. This is such a great idea and it turned out so well! It's unbelievable how much stores charge for something like this. I needed a spring/summer wreath last year and discovered how outrageous the prices are and made my own too (check it out on my blog and tell me what you think www.embracingthegoodlife.com ). Absolutely love the monogram!

  27. That's so sick! I love how you ripped the ugly out so easily. I always see those wreaths in random stores and feel bad for them, but I had no idea they had such potential :) A lesson in not judging the book by the cover I suppose, but dang...what a great job you did!
    HAPPY SITS DAY!

  28. Hi!
    I've had a monogram wreath on my todo list for the longest time but I've yet to find a font that I love - that's until I found yours! Can you tell me what font you used, please?
    Thanks so much,
    Orláith

    1. Orláith, I'm so sorry I missed your comment until just now. If you go to my monogram tutorial, it walks you through everything, including the font that I used (Monogram kk sc). Good luck with your wreath!

  29. Compared to when I was a kid, Educational Toys have come a long way. My nephew's enthusiasm and engagement with the STEM-based science kit I got for him not long ago was absolutely astounding. Beyond providing amusement, these toys foster analytical thinking, a need for knowledge, and problem-solving skills. Seeing how they influence the development of future generations' brains is very remarkable.
