Making Lunch Fun: Valentine's Day

How was your Valentine's Day? And your Thanksgiving? Christmas? New Year's Eve?  I took a little break, of sorts - no reason in particular.  I just wanted to enjoy the holidays with family, and then afterward I found myself a bit unmotivated.
Wanna know something really spectacular that happened while I was away?  Domestic Femme blew past its 100,000th visit!!! I think I'm getting the hang of this SEO thing :)

I kinda like to do special lunches for the little guy, on certain days of the year (See: Easter, Birthday, 1st Day of School).  I did this last year, for Valentine's Day:

The containers were spotted within the Valentine's Day section of my local grocery store.  Cool, huh?

This year, I covered up his lunch in some wrapping paper, slapped on some fun stickers, and topped his drink with ribbon.

Making Lunch Fun: First Day of School

Our son's first day of school was yesterday (3rd grade!).  To celebrate, I made him an extra special lunch.  Unfortunately, I didn't have a number 3 cookie cutter, so I improvised, using a pastry bag tip to stamp out the appropriate shape.  The sandwich is simply a PB & J, with sprinkles.  I sliced up a Red Delicious and cored it with one of my Cross mini cookie cutters.

I used our Food Saver's "seal" function to cut a plastic snack bag down for the cookie.  Then, I used yellow, chevron card stock and affixed a cute button that I made, which says "You're one smart cookie. (I hope your first day is awesome)".

I made a printable, that includes a "smart cookie" button by itself (in case you'd prefer to attach it to a different colored/patterned cardstock), and a bag topper, with a yellow chevron background and cookie button.  Click here to print them.

Do you do anything special for your kiddo's first day of school?

Making Lunch Fun: It's Your Birthday!

I got this idea from Happy Home Fairy, and fell in love with the notion of having to unwrap individual lunch items.  What a fun way to make their school day special on their birthday!

Birthday Lunch Surprise #Idea #Ideas #Lunchbox #Minecraft #Lunches #School #Easy #Birthdays

First of all: Yes, I sent my kiddo to school with a Mountain Dew AND a bag of cotton candy in his lunchbox.

1) It's his birthday and he n-e-v-e-r gets soda with his lunch; dessert items are a rarity as well.

2) His grade level went on a field trip today, so it's not like he'll have to sit still at a desk for hours after consuming this.

I used my star cookie cutter, to stamp out the sandwich shapes, drew a Minecraft Creeper face onto the Mountain Dew bottle with a Sharpie, and wrapped everything in polka dot wrapping paper.

What exciting lunch ideas have you tried with your little ones?

Making Lunch Fun: Easter Eggs!

I found the idea for this on Pigskins & Pigtails.

It took me all of 10 minutes and I only wish I could see the look on my kiddo's face, when he opens his lunchbox tomorrow.

I just grabbed a bag of last year's empty Easter eggs, washed and set them on a washcloth.  While they dried, I made a sandwich and cut it into small pieces.  I slipped a Bible verse in one of the eggs and his sandwich & grapes in the rest.

What other fun lunch ideas have you used?
